MEET THE COACHES!
Catalyst Program Director & Club Founder: Paul Holocher
A former Major League Soccer payer with the San Jose Clash and Chicago Fire and current Head Coach for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Paul was an All-American and Captain for the NCAA National Champions, Santa Clara University. Paul was recently named to the SCU Athletic Hall of Fame and named the 2003 NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year at UC Santa Cruz.
In February 2006 Paul was named the Head Coach for the Cal Poly Mustangs, and is looking forward to working to bring Mustang Soccer to National Prominence as he did with UC Santa Cruz. Paul's passion and commitment to developing young soccer players was the force behind the founding of the Catalyst Soccer. Paul is now bring that commitment and passion to the young players of San Luis Obispo.
Assistant Coach Brian Reed
Brian Reed(brreed@calpoly.edu) is a former Cal Poly standout player beginning his second year as an assistant coach, and first year as the top assistant coach for the Mustangs. Reed has been coordinating the recruiting efforts in conjunction with Holocher. Additionally, Coach Reed has also been actively working with the Catalyst Club, an organization founded by Coach Holocher, which looks to develop local youth players on the Central Coast.
A Fullerton native, Reed was a three-year starter for Cal Poly. During that stint, Reed was a two-year captain and First-Team All-Big West Conference selection. Prior to arriving at Cal Poly in '99, Reed was a C.I.F. Defensive player of the year in Southern California.
Coach Development Director: Jeff "Ziggy" Korytoski
Catalyst Soccer is proud to have Jeff "Ziggy" Korytoski as the Catalyst Coach Development Director. This role is critical in helping train the Catalyst Coaches in the specifics of the Catalyst method of high-energy and skill-oriented youth training. Ziggy will also be conducting a series of "Community Coaches Clinics" which reach out to our great local youth coaches and provide insight into the in's and out's of youth soccer development.
Korytoski holds his USSF "A"license, as well as his NSCAA Premier Diploma. He is currently the Director of Coaching for the North County Football Club and is the Assistant Coach for the successful Cal Poly Mustang Men's Soccer program. He graduated with an Associate of Arts degree from Santa Rosa Junior College and received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Political Science from Saint Leo University in 2007. Korytoski resides in Grover Beach, Calif.
Korytoski's coaching career began as an assistant coach at Maria Carrillo High School in California where he saw his team reach the sectional finals in 1999. In 2000, he became the head coach at Santa Rosa High School and led the team to the NCS Final Four. In 2001, Korytoski attended Penn State University and served as an assistant coach for the men's team that reach the NCAA round of 16 before losing to St. John's in overtime. That season, Korytoski also coached the Penn State Women's Club Soccer Team and led them to their first-ever National Championship. He spent a season on staff with Saint Leo University.
In the spring of 2007, Korytoski was chosen to lead the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and begin their international soccer program. Serving as the head coach and technical director, he spent time training both the men's and women's national teams for competition. CNMI is a provisional member of the East Asian Football Federation and in their first international competition, dropped a 3-2 decsion to Guam. Also, while with the CNMI National Teams, Korytoski organized coaching clinics and youth clinics to help the development of the territories youth programs.
This Summer 2008 Catalyst Soccer will be hosting several free youth coaches clinics throughout the Central Coast.
